I've examined my records for David Berger and although the death certificate copy from Vigo Co., Indiana, lists his mother Mary as born in Germany, Census Records for 1880, 1890, indicate that both David's parents were born in Pennsylvania. It could be that the informant on the death certificate did not have accurate information. The librarian of Vigo County writes that there are descrepancies in the information they have for David Berger and Anna Zane. I would be very iterested in exchanging information with you directly.
My last posting generated a response from Michael Smoke indicating that the parents of Esther and Catherine Herr are Christian Herr, 10/21/1783 - 8/26/1819 and Esther Ebt, 2/9/1795-3/6/1848. Census records of 1860 indicated that David's mother Esther was born abt. 1828, so this information probably does not apply to the persons we are looking for.
