Joseph Josiah Herod married Elizabeth Ann Allen in Attala County Mississippi.
Elizabeth Ann Allen is the daughter of William H. (Hodges) Allen and Mary, a Chickasaw Women. Mary may of been a half Indian herself.
William H. Allen was a Agent to the Chickasaw Nation and signed the Chickasaw Nation Letter to Andrew Jackson in 1832.
Its also notable that when the Chickasaw Nation bought the Choctaw lands in Georgia and Mississippi that the William Allen family are found in Choctow County.
As to Cherokee blood, Its possible that several of the Herod wives from this family of Herod's could be Cherokee descent.
I have studied my immediate family quite extensively. There are many instances of marriages between people of native American blood. Most don't know it, and are usually surprised to learn that they have indigenous origins.
A recent photo of Newton Starr Herod and his wife have been posted at findagrave.com. They are both buried in Texas. Joseph Josiah Herod and Elizabeth Allen are buried at the Herod Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas.
Their other brother Daniel McCarty Herod is buried across the street in the Daniel McCarty Cemetery. Another brother James who married Hanna Ratliff is buried at the Hogan Cemetery in Texas.
