German Hermes from Upper Peninsula of MI
Posted by: Joseph John Hermes Date: June 02, 2001 at 22:18:07

The furthest I can trace my family back is to my great great great grandfather and grandmother who came from Germany (possibly the North Rhine-WestPhalia region?) and moved to Wisconsin (90% sure it was Green Bay, but possibly DePere). There names were Joseph and I think Agnes, who was Jewish. I know of only one of their offspring, my great great grandfather, Henry Hermes, who was born in either Belgium or Holland before his parents emigrated. He married a Dutch woman by the name of Elizabeth Verheyden (spelling may be incorrect). They gave birth to my great grandfather, Joseph John Hermes, who I am named after, and he is the one who eventually moved the Hermes family to the Upper Peninsula. If there is anyone out there who could provide me with some more information about my family tree, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you.
