Joseph WOOD married Francina HERMAN, youngest child of Augustine Herman. They supposedly had children (not necessarily in this order): 1. Joseph --married Martha. --Was she Martha ENGLAND?? 2. Robert ca 1686-/1721 md. Catherine RUMSEY 3. Jennie (Jenneken) --bapt oct. 18, 1693 in Dutch Church of NY (city --formerly New Amsterdam) --md. Thomas CLARK. 4. Susannah who md. Ebenezer Empson 5. Letitia --married Samuel LOWMAN on 14 June 1716, Emmanuel Church, New Castle, Del. 6. Rebecca Francina (HERMAN) WOOD was supposedly buried at Emmanuel Church in New Castle Delaware, on 1 July 1749. She would have been 87 then, since she was baptized in the New Amsterdam Dutch church on 12 March 1662. But I have never seen any citation for that 1749 burial. Where was that recorded, and what was the actual text of the record?? Although this Joseph WOOD is said to have married Francina HERMAN, and she is said to be buried in 1749, this Joseph WOOD died in 1721, leaving a wife, ANNE!!! Joseph WOOD's will: New Castle County wills. Dec 12, 1721 - Dec 21, 1721 Granddau Ann Clerk; wife; son Joseph Wood; dau Jean Clerk; dau Susannah Empson; son-in-law Ebenezer Empson; dau Leticia; dau Rebecca. Exec., son Joseph Wood & Ebenezer Empson. C361. This will abstract can be seen online in A Calendar of Delaware Wills, New Castle County, 1682-1800, p. 25 at http://books.google.com/books?id=A_wPAAAAYAAJ& See deed from New Castle County Delaware Land Records --ANN WOOD estate: 8. Deed. 20 July 1727. Charles Read and Henry Hodges, both of the City of Philadelphia in Prov. of Penn., merchants, and Jehu Curtis of Newcastle Co., Gent., execs of the Last Will and Testament of Ann Wood, late of Newcastle, Widdow, dec'd, for the sum of 220 pounds, sold unto William Read of the Town of Newcastle, merchant, a tract of land with appurtenances, situate in Swanwich in sd. Co. It begins at the Dyke that runs up the marsh up Delaware and bounds land of Peter Jacquett and contains 320 acres. This is land that Joseph Wood, late of said Co., Gent, dec'd, by virtue of sundry conveyances was seized of. By sd Wood's Last Will dated 12 Dec 1721 he did bequeath sd land with appurtenances unto his wife, Anne Wood. Then sd Anne on 7 Oct 1723 did make her Last Will in which she appointed Charles Read, afsd Henry Hodges and Jehu Curtis as Executors. Signed: Cha. Read, Henry Hodges, Jehu Curtis. Wit: David French, John Gooding. Ack: Nov. 1728. (I1-10) [Pp. 2-3, New Castle County Delaware Land Records 1728-1731 & 1734-1738, by Carol Garrett.] Abstract of Anne Wood's will: WOOD, ANN. Philadelphia. Widow. October 7, 1723. February 24, 1723. D. 386. Thomas the son and Hannah wife of said Henry Hodge. Daughter Ann Bolton. Grand-children Thomas and Slater Clay; Robert and Ann Bolton. Executors and Trustees: Son John [[sic =JEHU]] Curtis and friends Henry Hodge and Charles Read, Philadelphia, shopkeepers. Witnesses: Philip Monckton, Charles Brockden and Mary Andrews. The widow Anne WOOD of the 1723 will is probably this lady: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rodohu10&id=I5607 Exec Jehu CURTIS was her son. Could a different Francina WOOD be the one who was buried on 1 July 1749 in Emmanuel Church? Another Francina WOOD was a child of Joseph WOOD (son of Joseph Wood and Francina Herman) and his wife Martha. A reference is needed for the 1749 burial date of Francina WOOD, whomever she was. It would be important to find by what "sundry conveyances" Joseph WOOD came into possession of the 320 acres at Swanwick, inherited by wife ANNE. I own New Castle County Delaware Land Records 1728-1731 & 1734-1738, by Carol Garrett --but need the earlier NCC land records books. I suppose a copy of the Joseph WOOD 1721 will should be ordered too. Can anyone help with these records? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Liz J Notify Administrator about this message?
