Wally Herman of Gages Lakes Services for Wally Herman, 58, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 27, at the Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd., Grayslake. Interment will follow at Warren Cemetery in Gurnee. Friends of the family may visit from 3 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at the funeral home. Born in Waukegan on Nov. 6, 1948, to his loving parents Eloise and Orvan Herman and Walter Rosenow, he passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 21, 2007. He graduated from Warren Township High School in 1967. Wally was the dedicated owner of both the Wildwood Service and Herman Brothers in Gages Lake. "I know Wally" was the common phrase when family and friends would encounter a "stranger" as it seems that just about everyone knew him. Throughout his life, he was active in many organizations: Sons of the American Legion Post 771 in Gurnee, Towing and Recovery Association of America, and was also one of the founding members of the Professional Towing and Recovery Operators of Illinois. Wally was passionate about everything he did including playing golf, watching the Chicago Bears, auctions of all sorts, classic cars, and collecting tire ashtrays and toy tow trucks. Survivors include his sons, Michael (Jennifer) Herman and Chad (Cari) Herman; his grandchildren, Madison and Andrew; his brother, Jack (Karen) Herman; his nephew, Jack Jr.; many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and far too many friends to list, all of which will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, Wally would be proud to know you made a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Grayslake Rescue Squad, 160 Hawley St, Grayslake, IL 60030.
