Looking for any info on descendants of James Herington/Herrington, born c1822, GA; listed in the 1850 and 1860 censuses in Wilkinson Co., GA; died by 1880 when his wife was listed as a widow in Jones Co., GA. In 1850, there was a 14-year-old John Herrington living in James' household -- was this a younger brother? James married Penelope Amerson (daughter of Cullen Amerson and Elizabeth Taunton) on 24 July 1845 in Washington Co., GA. Penelope was born c1827, GA; she was listed as a widow in Jones Co., GA in 1880. Children of James Herrington and Penelope Amerson: 1. John Herrington, born c1848, GA. 2. Newsome Herrington, born c1851, GA; m. Jane (--) (b. c1855, GA); listed in 1880 census in Jones Co., GA. 3. Mary E. Herrington, born c1854, GA. 4. Martha F. Herrington, born c1854, GA. 5. James Herrington, born c1856, GA. 6. William Herrington, born c1858, GA. 7. David Herrington, born 1860, GA. 8. James B. Herrington, born c1861, GA; living with his mother in Jones Co., GA in 1880. I can't find any evidence of any of the children after the 1860 census entry, with the exception of Newsome (who I can't find after 1880) and the youngest James, who was still living with his mother in 1880. What happened to Penelope and her children? Does anyone recognize these Herringtons? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
