Peter--My family records indicate a royal connection through the Herefords-Oral history suggests that the name Hereford was originated by Humphrey De Bohun an ancestor whose lineincludes the Earl of Herfordshire and Essex(On the other side of London)The De Bohun connection goes clear to King Henry 1V son of John of Gaunt-Duke of Lancaster) who married Mary De Bohun. The De Bohuns were the original Earls of Hereford and the Hereford line merged with the crown with Henry 1V. According to my records James Hereford was Humphrey the Earl of Herefordshire Born 12 Dec 1634 Sufton-Herefordshire and Died Dec 1693 in Fairfax County VA and was taken back to Herfordshire for burial prob. at Mordibund. His wife was Hester Holmes Born Abt 1637 in England and Died 1661 in Virginia . Father of James was Roger.
