A.J. Herd (parents Wm. Herd and Rebecca Hudson) served first in the 7th KY Infantry (Union) followed by service with the 14th KY Calvary (Union). A.J. was mustered out in 1863 for medical reasons. Served in the KY State Legislature from 1863-1865. Served too as deacon of New Hope Baptist Church, Boonville, KY. Son Joseph F. Herd served as Owsley County, KY Sheriff from 1882-1886.

Please contact me if you are a descendant or otherwise have information about A.J. and Joseph F. Herd. The subject Andrew Jackson Herd was my great-great grandfather.
