Hey Marilyn,
I believe that John C. was only there for a little while, enough time to marry Mary Ann Mitten in 1834. He may have relocated from South Carolina with his mother, Lydia Herbert/Harbert after 1810. Lydia may have been a daughter/niece of the Worthingtons who lived in MD/VA and moved to SC, I don't know. Thanks for checking! Let me know if I can help out.
