By any chance, would this be John "Robert" Hepenstall [spelled Heptinstal in the birth records located at the Mercer Co. WV Courthouse] John Robert, Sr. was the son of Rebecca Jane Custer and Elisha Hall Heptinstal. I find him listed as John R. and as Robert in the census records.
1930 TAZEWELL CO. CENSUS is found John Robert. He is listed as being 69 years old, making his birth year abt 1860, and as being born in WV, most likely in Mercer Co. because that is where at least 2 of his sisters Roxanna and Fannie, were born. He states that he is a widow and was married at the age of 22 which would mean he was married abt 1882. He has 2 of his daughters living with him, Willie F., who is listed as being 42 and married at the age of 42 meaning she has recently married with no husband listed, and Dolly B., 33 and single.
Also in 1930 in Mercer Co. WV is John R. Heptinstall, who I believe to be a son, and is living next to Thomas Otis Lockhart, brother of my GGrandmother, Mary Ellen Lockhart who is the daughter of Roxanna [who married John Henry Lockhart, Jr.]
John R. is listed as living on Oakvale, Princeton State Road, age 32, married at the age of 26 to Lucille Unknown with one son Howard E. who is 6 years old. John has listed his occupation as Driller, County Road.
