George W Henthorn/Hinthorn was born February 20, 1837 in McLean County, Illinois to Stephen Downard Henthorn and Nancy Neighbarger. He was the youngest of 8 children: James Neighbarger Henthorn, Rebecca Henthorn-Trimmer, Mary Henthorn, Margaret Amanda Henthorn-McAfferty, Lewis Jackson Henthorn, Stephen M Henthorn, Davis J Henthorn and George.

After his father's death on December 19, 1838, his mother married Jonathan Moore on November 4, 1841 in McLean County,IL. I believe Mr Moore passed away sometime soon thereafter. She then married Amos Smith on May 18, 1842 in McLean County, Illinois. Amos was my ggggrandfather.
Amos had an infant son, John (my gggrandfather). Amos and Nancy had 2 children, Phoebe and Henry C Smith.

So, the Nancy Smith that George W Henthorn is enumerated with in Scott County is actually his mother. Amos died sometime after they emigrated from Illinois to Iowa. The family then went back to McLean County.

I think possibly that Nancy again remarried to a Thomas Lewis in 1860, but have not proven that fact yet.
