Q. re John Hinthorn who m. Margaret Downard

John Henthorn/Hinthorn married Margaret Downard about 1776. The two moved to Ohio at some point, lived a long life and died in Licking County, Ohio; John 19 Nov 1820, his loving wife Mary 6 Nov 1827.

All the sources I've seen (Only sources on the Internet, I admit) agree on those facts. However, opinion is divided on some other things.

Was John born in Frederick County Virginia, Frederick County Maryland, or Pennsylvania?

His wife, Margaret Downard, is born in 1752 in Ohio on a lot of sources. The first permanent (European) settlement in Ohio was Marietta, founded in 1788. Either colonists were sneaking across the river 36 years ahead of time, or she was at least half Indian, or someone made a mistake and a lot of people copied it. Any thoughts?

Their children are shown born in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia. If John and Margaret settled in that little spit of Virginia (Now WV) that sticks up between Ohio and Pennsylvania, then moved west after the kids were born, that might explain the confusion. It still doesn't forgive anyone who puts "West Virginia" as a state before 1863.

Here are the children, gleaned primarily from the LDS sources and RootsWeb World Connect. I realize neither is infallible.
