James F., born circa 1816, Indiana, in IL 1860
20 Aug 1860, Chester, Randolph Co., IL, pg. 363
James F. Henson, 44, M, W, Laborer, $50 per. est, IN
Nancy, 24, TN
William, 24, IL
Louis, 16, M, IL
Luticia, 15, F IL
Joseph, 11, IL
I believe that the census taker, Mr. Jno R. Shannon, erronously listed at least William through Joseph as Hensons when they should have been shown in the household of Joseph B. Mattingly, the next person on the page.Joseph B. Mattingly was a steamboat captain and married more than once. His wife in 1860 was Sarah Robinson, born in Arkansas, married in Missouri. The two youngest Mattingly children, Ferdinan and Jacob are shown with their parents. It is possible that all of these people lived in the same house, even though the census taker shows different households.
The only James Henson of 1850 that I can find who would "fit" this one in 1860, was:
14 Oct., Dst. 22, Christian Co., IL, pg. 143
James Henson, 34, farmer, $600, IN
Mary M., 34, KY
Elizabeth, 12, IL
Mary J., 8, IL
Morgan, 5, male, IL
La Fayette, 2/12, male, IL
A check of the 1860 census for James, Morgan, and Lafayette does not turn up any who would correspond with the age or birthdate of these in 1850.
Has any Henson researcher knowledge of James Henson of 1860 or of 1850?I would like to confirm that those are indeed Mattingly children instead of Hensons.Mattinglys are extremely difficult to trace.
