Jim, too often ages in the census are just a ballpark sometimes for age--my gGrandpa only aged 4 years from the 1900 to the 1910 census--good trick eh? Sometimes neighbors reported for the families if they were not home in earlier census' so only other family records can sort that out--birth certificates, death certificates, later SS and Military records. Do not know where Clint was in the 1920 census--he is not with the family, but old enough to be out somewhere else working--some of them seemed to have bounced back and forth between TN and VA.
When my Dad wanted to retire, he got a copy of his birth certificate, and his birth had been recorded as 12 days before he was born, but not sent by the midwife to be recorded til a year later--he had to have my Grandma, my older Aunts and an older neighbor still living to prove his age and birthdate to get it straightened out and matching his Service record with the CCC and Navy back in 1939-1945, and his work record.
In other words, one age may be relative to finding the area to look for the actual age in other records.
More confusing, right?
Sorry
