In researching my Henry family of Botetourt Co. VA to Hardin Co. TN and then settling in Jackson Co. AR in 1853, I've found a close relationship with the Hawkins and Harvey families. First let me say that our William A. Henry (III) born July 27, 1804 Botetourt Co. VA was the son of William Henry Jr. who died 1814 of injuries suffered in the War of 1812. This William Henry Jr. was the son of William Henry born 30 Sep 1755 and Unknown Wife. There were several children by William the first and unknown wife such as William, John, Sarah, Anna, Polly, Elizabeth, Rachel and Peggy Henry. William Henry born 30 Sep. 1755 married secondly Bethsheba Owen in Botetourt Co. VA 8 May 1802. They were the parents of Betsey Elizabeth, Rachel Ann, Margaret, Sophia, Stephen, Magdeline, Helen, Owen and Catherine Henry. When William Henry II died in 1814 Botetourt Co. the Guardian was Lewis Harvey son of Robert Harvey and Martha Borden Hawkins (widow of Benjamin Hawkins). Now until yesterday it was my understanding that Lewis was the son of Martha and Robert yet in a Virginia document is said that Robert Harvey and first wife were parents of all the Harvey children but one named Mary who was the child of Robert and Martha Borden Hawkins Harvey. John Henry, Administrator of the Estate of William Henry Jr. 1814-15 Botetourt Co. paid our William Henry a days work and also paid Owen Henry out of the Estate for one day. I suppose the boys were doing jobs to help John Henry with the estate. Our William III would have been 10 years of age and I don't have the age of Owen Henry if this is the son of William and Bethsheba. Our William A. Henry moved to Hardin Co. TN before the 1830 Census with his Aunt Sarah Henry Wirt, widow of John T. Wirt also of Botetourt Co. VA. Then in 1831 William Henry married Elizabeth Francis Russell in Hardin Co. (The Russells can be traced back to Guilford Co. NC and from there back to VA also.) The children of William Henry Jr. who remained in Botetourt Co. appear to have continued as wards of Lewis Harvey. I say this since the only daughter Peggy Henry married Elijah Kelly 10 July 1830 Botetourt and the marriage record shows that Peggy was the Ward of Lewis HARVEY-bond: Samuel Wort (Wirt). William A. Henry III repeatedly witnessed for the Hawkins of Hardin Co. TN in the selling of slaves and also in land deeds. I'll post a few examples: "Perry B. Hawkins and Elizabeth T. Hawkins to Percival S. Hawkins $742.00 - Slave named BURWELL, about 40." Another would be: "Percival S. Hawkins as Executor of the Estate of James O. Hawkins." Also, in this reference " All the interest in the estate of his brother John T. Hawkins, Jr. lying in Barren Co. KY on the waters of Fallen Timber & Glovers Creek containing about 2000 acres." Please note the Slave named Burwell above. Then we have Lewis Harvey married in Botetourt Co. VA to Frances Thacker Burwell September 25, 1807. In the Lineage Book of Hereditary Order of Descendants of Colonial Governors, Frances Thacker Burwell is shown as a descendant of Edward Digges, Governor of VA 1655/56 through his son Dudley Digges and wive Susannah Cole. Their son Cole Digges was the grandfather of Nathaniel Burwell, father of Frances Thacker Burwell that married Lewis Harvey. Can anyone please share with me the relationship of the Hawkins and Harvey families above to our Henry families of Botetourt Co. VA? If you might know of a marriage or have come across any acknowledgement regarding the Henrys of Botetourt County with these families, I would be most grateful for your assistance. I am a great granddaughter of William A. Henry III and wife Elizabeth Francis Russell who are buried in the Oakland Cemetery, Jackson Co. AR.
