Thank you Mrs. Dyer for your reply re: Alex. Henry. I have recieved several copies of compositions written by his son George A. Henry (b.6/29/1841 Bedford, Pa. - d. 1/3/1930 Los Angeles, Ca). In his "INDEX TO A LIFE OF OVER EIGHTY FOUR YRS", written in his own hand and given to his grand dgtr. Norma Badger of St. Paul Mn., he mentions learning to becoming a printer in the Burlington Hawk Eye and engaging himself with his brother-in-law, Lemual Shields in starting the GLENWOOD OPINION, in Mills Co. Iowa. Almost immediately came the call to arms and following in that composition, is an acct. of his service. If you are interested in copies of any of his writings (he even authored a book, but never published it), I would be glad to send them to you. I find it interesting the difference in Julia Ann's name...Flenner and Miller. I think I found her info at the local LDS library when searching for info on the Sr. GAH. I also found some info on a Great Lakes region trapper, named Alex. Henry, known as Alex.the Lesser, if I remember correctly...He reportedly traveled to Pa. ... but I haven't taken the time to research this. It was said that one of his sons was a tanner by trade, but never practiced it, went to the mid west and became a teacher. I need to do further research on this, but I find it curious that most of the Henrys traveled around a lot...they were a restless bunch...right down to my dad, who was a contractor and traveled a lot, tho he never left his family, as did his g'father G A Henry Sr. I'd love to hear from you if you have the time. Sincerely Hatti Parkinson Notify Administrator about this message?
