A digital record - a mss by Samuel Pedler - and available through Oshawa Public Library site records the following: 1816. John Henry: "The pioneer of the Henry family of Oshawa was a native of Drumlees(sic) County Cavan, Ireland. Mr.Henry with his wife, four sons and four daughters came to New York on a sailing vessel. The pioneer and his family came to Canada at an early date but settled in East Whitby in 1816. In that year Mr. Henry moved on the land now overlooking Port Oshawa. The pioneer had barely settled comfortably on his land when his wife died leaving behind a large family of sons and daughters. Mrs. Henry was buried in the cemetery east of Oshawa. The pioneer in due course married a second wife, Miss Eunice Davis. In 1835 the pioneer died and was buried at the side of his first wife in the little cemetery by the lakeshore. The pioneer's widow, who was skilled in the healing art, but she too passed away. Her death took place about the year 1840. The children of the departed consisted of Thomas, John, James and William, Nancy, Fanny, Jane and Mary Ann. All of whom years ago moved from home except Thomas."
