In an effort to help clear up the misidentifications and general confusion surrounding the various Henrys who settled in North and South Carolina in what I call the "Greater Catawba River Region." In general, the various Henrys appear in Rowan, Mecklenburg, Old Tryon, Lincoln Iredell, and Rutherford Cos., NC, and in York Co., SC beginning about 1750. Naturally, they move west as time passes, but for now I will focus on those in this specific area.
I will be posting as time permits brief summaries of each known Henry family unit with links to more complete information from my files.
I will post each message as a response to this one to keep the info in a single thread. I will begin with my own Henry line, that of the William Henry b. about 1720 d. before Jan. 1773, married Hannah Tanner. Because he owned land there, this William is best identified as Crowders Creek William or CCWilliam. He and his children are often confused with the family of William Henry who lived on Henry's Knob in York Co., SC, who can be easily identified as Henry's Knob William or HKWilliam.
So far, to my knowledge, no conclusive evidence has been found linking any single Henry family to any of the other Hnery families in the area. One likely exception being the two Henry women who married Cathey brothers, who are most likely related, perhaps as siblings, though nothing is known of their origins.
