According to the Obituary of Anna Maria Francesca Henningfeld Sanders, daughter of Maria Catharina Struman Henningfeld, ".....emigrated to America in 1845 and arrived with her mother at Milwaukee in July of that year." This is the only indication that we have that Maria Catharina lived in America.

Seventh Generation
18. Johann Henrich HENNINGFELD-930 was born 14 Mar 1805 in Olfen, Prussia. He died 1838.
According to tradition, which is unproven, Johann Heinrich arrived in America in about 1837 with his wife, Elizabeth Dahlman and nine Prussian born children. He reportedly died in 1838 and his wife died in 1840. His children were: (1) Frederick, (2) Louis, (3) Elizabeth, (4) John, (5) William, (6) Henry, (7) Annie, (8) Theodore, (9) Joseph. There is no trace of any of the children in the census or in any other record. A Commemorative Biographical Record for Racine County published in 1906 lists a Louis Henningfeld and states that his parents were Henry & Christina (Holland) Henningfeld. It states that Louis' grandparents were Henry & Elizabeth (Dahlmann) Henningfeld and that they died in 1838 and 1840. This is the only record that shows a Henry Henningfeld and Elizabeth Dahlmann connection. I believe that Louis' grandparents were Johan Wilhelm & Elizabeth (Alt) Henningfeld who died in 1849 and 1851.

From a 1906 Biographical sketch for Racine County, Wisconsin for Louis Henningfeld, the date of birth was calculated for Henry based on the statement that Henry arrived with his parents in 1837 at the age of 15. Thus 1837-15=1822. However, All other information indicates that Henry, father of Louis, was born in 1833. Census records, naturalization records, and death records all indicate 1833 as the year of birth and 1847 as the year of arrival in America.
19. Johann Wilhelm HENNINGFELD-931 was born 18 Feb 1806 in Olfen, Prussia. He died 13 Jan 1849 in Waterford, WI.
Church records from St. Thomas in Waterford indicate that Wilhelm Hennigfeld lived in Waterford and died at the age of 44 years.
Johann married (1-MRIN:382) Elizabeth ALT-996. Elizabeth was born 1810. She died 28 Feb 1851.
Elizabeth Alt married Henry Elbert eleven months after the death of her husband William Henningfeld. It appears that she died during child birth in 1851 while giving birth to John Henry Elbert. Her son was baptized on April 15, 1851.

Maria Catharina Henningfeld Engelkamp may have migrated to Wisconsin with her brothers and sisters however this has not been proven out yet. A search of the 1850 and 1860 census could prove the relocation.

I was unable to locate the Theodor J. Engelkamp family in the 1850 or 1860 census for Wisconsin. There is no proof that this family came to America.

21. Franz Arnold HENNINGFELD-433 was born 5 Nov 1810 in Olfen, Prussia. He died 26 Apr 1869 in Waterford, Racine Co., WI and was buried in St. Thomas, Waterford, WI.
BIOGRAPHY: Franz Arnold Henningfeld was probably the first to arrive in America. There are indications that he arrived in 1845 and was present at the marriage of his sister Catharina Elisabeth to John Henry Hoffer at Burlington, WI on 22 Feb 1846. He returned to Germany to give away his sister Bernardina Dorothea at Selm, Prussia to William Kortendick on 15 Apr 1847. He returned to Wisconsin in June, 1847. On September 28, 1850 he entered into a mortgage in Norway Township for 40 acres of land described as SE-1/4, SW-1/4, Section 30, Township 4, North of Range 20 East. The land cost $55. The 1860 census lists the Henningfeld family as "Herringfeldt" and lists his occupation as a shoemaker. The value of his real estate was $400, and his personal estate was $30.
BIRTH: Franz Arnold Henningfeld was baptized at St. Vitus Catholic Church at Olfen, Germany. His godparents were Franz Arnold Strumann, his namesake, and Dorothea Bokholt.
Franz married (1-MRIN:118) Catherine Elizabeth RICHTER-434, daughter of John Henrich RICHTER-681 and Catharina Elizabeth ACHSENKAMP-682 (MRIN:120) on 12 Oct 1839 in Olfen, Prussia, Germany. Catherine was born 27 Feb 1816 in Olfen, Prussia. She died 18 Mar 1900 in Burlington, Racine Co., WI.
OBITUARY: "Mrs. Elizabeth Henningfeld died at the home of her son, Henry Henningfeld on McHenry Street, on Sunday, March 18, at 6 p.m. The deceased was born in Olfin, (sic) Westpfahlen, Germany, February 27, 1816, and was consequently 84 years and 19 days old at the time of her demise. On October 2, (sic) 1839, she was united in marriage to Francis Henningfeld in her native country, coming to this country in 1847. She resided in Waterford till about 23 years ago, since then she has made her home with her son in this city."
DEATH: Her death was recorded in the Racine County vital records volume E, page 357. Her cause of death was old age and exhaustion. Her death record also lists her date of birth. Her death is also recorded in the church records of St. Mary's, Burlington, WI on LDS film 1862504.

Francis (Frank) Henningfeld was declared dead by the courts. The family last heard from him in 1888 when he wrote a letter stating that he was going to the Black Hills. No one ever heard from him again.

Catharina Elisabeth Henningfeld Hoffer's husband John H. Hoffer served in the Civil War. I have a picture of him in his uniform. On December 16, 1849 a marriage took place in Racine County between an Elizabeth Henningfeld and Herman Albert. This was listed in Vol 1, pg 122. This is a possible second marriage of Catharina Elisabeth Henningfeld.

23. Johann Theodor HENNINGFELD-934 was born 14 Nov 1816 in Olfen, Prussia. He died 13 Nov 1875 in Waterford, Racine Co., WI.
John Theodor Henningfeld arrived in America on 30 Jul 1845. He was married at Burlington, WI in May, 1848. He died at the age of 59 and his wife moved to Milwaukee where she lived with her brother Anthony Dahlman for the next 30 years. The family was located in the 1870 census at Burlington, Wisconsin and lists all of the children except John. The family name was spelled HENNIFELD in the US Census. An 1846 church census for St. Mary's Burlington, WI listed him from Olfen, District of Ludinghausen. His age was listed at 29 years in 1846. In 1860 the family was living at Rochester, Racine County, Wisconsin. His occupation was listed as a farmer and the value of his land was $1,500 while his personal estate was valued at $200.

Anna Maria Francesca emigrated to America in 1845 and arrived with her mother at Milwaukee in July of that year. She is thought to have traveled with her brother Franz Henningfeld. Her death is listed in the Racine County vital records and showes her age at the time of death as 70 years. Information pertaining to her mother arriving at Milwaukee was from the obituary of Frances in the Waterford Post, dated November 9, 1893.
