Dear Lou,
Yes I know exactly how much this means to your family. I, too, have been searching for many years about my family history and when I finally came across David Hennessee I thought god had sent me an angel!LOLI have the Hennessee line traced as far as 1720 thanks to David. The Baker line, unfortunately, only goes back as far as Giles and Catherine.
To answer your question in regards to Indian Ancestry.I too have heard stories that our Hennessee line has Cherokee blood but have not yet found proof of this. So, my belief is that our Indian ancestry, if it is in the Hennessee line, came from Alfred Hennessee's wife Susan Ann Wasson, but I have not found any proof of this either.
Now, another myth, Giles Baker b: 1811 is supposedly full blooded Cherokee Indian. There is a gentleman by the name of Dave Erwin who lives in Powhatan, AR who has done research on the Baker line and has pictures of Giles Baker. He stated that he looks like an Indian in White mans clothes and that he took on the Baker name in order to get out of going to the reservations.Unfortunately, Dave has not been well and I have not had good luck in talking to him.I will try again.
As far as Myrtle Baker goes.I have no other information on her.I wished I could help you out more in this area.
All that I ask is if you could fill in some of the gaps I might have on Giles and Tennies children for me as well as let me know about any new info you have come across.
Thank you,
Ms. Queet Jaco
