George Henigan of Blackfriars, Shoreditch and Hoxton, UK
I wonder whether anyone knows about my branch of the Henigans?
George Henigan, was born in about 1857 in Blackfriars, who married Henrietta Watson in 1876 in Shoreditch.(I know about their children, and Henrietta's family, but I do not know if George had any siblings.)
His father George Henigan, was born around 1820, but I don't know where.Widowed (? 1st wife's name); remarried in 1853 to Anne Mylett. In the 1861 census, Anne seems to be a widow again - but I can't find any trace of George Jr, who I am assuming is her son.
Both the Georges worked as whalebone cutters.
George Sr's father was apparently called John Henigan, and was a licensed victualler; I know nothing else about him at all.
I can find no trace of either of the Georges (under any variation of the name) in any census except 1881/1901 (George Jr & Henrietta in Shoreditch/Hoxton).
Online searches (including IGI) have not yielded records of the births or deaths of either of the Georges, or the existence of siblings.I've used every spelling that I can think of, and also tried leaving the first name blank (in case it wasn't actually George).
They're being a bit elusive!(Perhaps George Sr or John came to England from Ireland - I have no idea at the moment...)
