I think that is a different Ezekiel. The death of one Ezekiel Hendrick is recorded in the Cook Family Bible (the Bible of one of his daughters) as 10 April 1817 "age 85 years" thus born ca 1731/2. The death of his wife Mary is also recorded in the Bible. This Ezekiel Hendrick is surely the son of Benjamin, as he is the one who appears in the records of Amelia and later Prince Edward counties, and who married Mary Wood in 1781 in Prince Edward.
That was clearly a second marriage, for he obviously had several children by the time of that marriage. By 1783 he had left Prince Edward County, according to a merchant's account book, and probably had moved to Buckingham County.By 1796 he was in Wilkes County, NC when he made a deed of gift to several of his adult children:“my beloved children, that is my sons Bernard, James, Ezekiel, Tiberius, and William, and my daughters Leah and Mesnier... six negroes that is now in the possession of James Wood of the State of Georgia and also a negro woman and a negro the child of said wench which are now in the possession of Fanny Handford..." All of the children were over 21, meaning that none of them were children of the wife Mary Wood.James Wood was apparently a brother of Mary Wood who had earlier been in Prince Edward before removing to Georgia.
While Ezekiel himself appears in several records and tax lists of both Wilkes and neighboring Surry County at this time, none of the sons do.Unfortunately, the deed does not identify where those sons were living, but at least two of those names appear in Buckingham or neighboring Campbell County, and the daughter Leah had married there in 1794.It appears to me that this deed is some sort of settlement with a "first family" from a wife earlier than Mary Wood.Several years later he gifted the two daughters with a parcel of land, identifying them as Leah Jividon, wife of Thomas Jividon "of Virginia" and Misnier Sebastian, wife of Elisha Sebastian of North Carolina.Leah Jevidon married in Buckingham County, Virginia and was still living there at the time of the second deed of gift.
Unfortunately, the family Bible records only the children of the second marriage, all of whom were female.
I can't recall offhand whether I collected anything on Nathaniel Hendrick past about 1790, but I'll check my old notes and see if there's anything that might bear on your theory.
