hi barb and steve the original brothers abraham isaac and john came from copenhagen denmark to orange county n.y. in 1692 and 1694 the spelling heptonstall as opposed to haptonstall is an english one from the town of the same name in britton which was probably overan by the goths about 1150 the original danish haptonstalls were lords as assighned to subjugate conquerd tribes by the vanali and goths. another spelling of the name is hauptonstall. stall in scandinavi means high office , hapt means exalted cheiftan . i hope this helps roald
