For all interested readers, I copied below most of the online will of Isaac Haptonstall, which can be found at: http://c-23.rootsweb.com/usgenweb/archives/wv/greenbrier/wills/willbk01.txt Note that the Hannah who gets one cow and one calf he refers to as his granddaughter and that he also states that said Hannah is the daughter of Abraham and Charity Haptonstall. Therefore Abraham (husband of Charity) was his son. (Recall that this Abraham died in 1814 in Greenbrier Co.) Moreover, as stated in the will, John--whom we know was born in 1775 in NJ--is another son of this Isaac. This Isaac could not have been born in 1767 and then had a son John in 1775. He had to have been born earlier. Closer to the 1733 date. Therefore I think there was no Isaac Haptonstall born in 1767. I think there were only two Isaacs. There was the Isaac born ca 1733 (although this date might be a little too early) who had sons John, Abraham, and Isaac, and who wrote his will in 1831. And then there was his son Isaac who died in 1868 and was the father of David S. Haptonstall. Isaac's will: In the name of God Amen know all men by these presents that I Isaac Haptonstall of the County of Greenbrier & State of Virginia & calling to mind the mortality of the body & that it is appointed for all men to die do hereby make & ordain this to be my last will & Testament in manner & form following to wit. To my son John Haptonstall and my grandson Charles Haptonstall son to Abraham and Charity Haptonstall I give and Bequeath my home tract of land containing one hundred and fifteen Acres to be Divided equally Between them. I also give all my farming utensils to said Charles Haptonstall & To my son Isaac Haptonstall I give one tract of Land containing 93 acres adjoining the place I now Live on the southwest end. To my daughter Lancy Knap I give one cow. To my grand Daughter Hannah Haptonstall Daughter to Abraham and Charity Haptonstall I give one cow and calf. To the above named Charles Haptonstall I give all the rest of my cattle. I also give all my pots and kettle to said Charles. I also give to said Charles one bed and beadcloaths [sic]. I do hereby acknowledge this to be my last will and Testament hereby making all former wills and Declaring this to be my true last will and Testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of June in the year of our Lord one Thousand eight hundred and thirty one.
