The only sources I have that the Hempenstalls lived in NJ are: 1. Morton on p.381 of his "History of Highland County, VA" says that Abraham came from NJ. 2. According to Greenbrier County cemetery records, John HAPTONSTALL, the son of Abraham's brother Isaac, was born 1775 in New Jersey. Now about your several Isaac Hempenstalls: Isaac Hempenstall/Haptonstall had a son named Isaac. That would account for the Isaac born ca 1733 and his son Isaac born ca 1790. I'm not sure about your 1760's Isaac. What is your source on him? Below is some data on the family of Isaac Hempenstall/Haptonstall of Greenbrier Co., which was given to me. Not listed is Hannah Hempenstall, who married Elibab Wilson. She was not named in Isaac's will, perhaps because she was the only child of Isaac's not living in Greenbrier County. But we know from a 1788 consent-to-marry letter that she was indeed a daughter of Isaac. She may have been the firstborn, and so probably was also born in NJ. 1. Isaac H. HAPTONSTALL was born in New York. He died 1832 in Greenbrier Co., (West) Virginia. Isaac married (1) Hannah. They had the following children: 2 M i. John HAPTONSTALL was born 1775 in New Jersey. He died 31 Jan 1858 in Greenbrier Co., (West) Virginia and was buried 1858. 3 F ii. Lancy HAPTONSTALL. Lancy married (1) James KNAPP on 7 Mar 1817 in Greenbrier Count, (West) Virginia. 4 M iii. Issac HAPTONSTALL was born 1790 in White Sulphur Sp, Greenbrier Co., (West) Virginia. He died 5 May 1868 in Greenbrier Co., West Virginia and was buried May 1868 in Reid Cemetery, Greenbrier Co., West Virginia. Issac married (1) Cynthia Belinder CARPTENTER on 10 Oct 1817 in Greenbrier Count, (West) Virginia. 5 M iv. Abraham HAPTONSTALL died in Greenbrier, (West) Virginia in 1814 after returning sick from duty as a soldier in the War of 1812 and was buried in Greenbrier, (West) Virginia. Abraham married (1) Charity BUCKHANNON, daughter of Charles BUCKHANNON and Sarah on 26 Feb 1808 in Greenbrier, (W) VA. Remember that Abraham Senior, brother of Isaac Senior, also died in 1814. But he died in Kentucky. In his will, he mentions a brother Isaac and a sister named Eleanor Nap (probably KNAPP). There were several Knapp families in and around Greenbrier Co., but sofar I haven't been able to connect her with any of them.
