While looking for any Hemby (Himby, Hamby, Hemly, Hembry, Hembree, etc.) that lived in the Red River Co. TX area that could be a relative to my G Grandmother, Margaret Joana Hemby, I came across your post.

Margaret shows up on one census that I can find, the 1860 Lamar Co. TX. She was listed as being 22 on the 1860 census so she should have been born around 1838. I cannot find any family with a Margaret, Joana, Joanna, or M. J. in any Texas county for the 1850's. And I believe that her birth being shown on the census as TX was probably a mistake because I cannot find any Hemby's in the area that early.

Margaret was married in 1853 in Lamar Co. TX and died in 1862 in Red River Co. TX.

I have found the Jonathan Hemby family, and their numerous relatives, but there is no occurance of a Margaret as a sister or daughter that I can find.

I have come across a Joseph Hemby that may be the one you are looking for. He was enumerated, by himself, in Hopkins Co. on the 1870 census at the age of 60 and born in TN. I cannot find how he is tied to the other Hemby's in the Hopkins Co. area.

Do you know if this is the Joseph you were looking for, or if not, how this man ties to the others in this area? Also, do you have any information on a Margaret Joana Hemby?

Any help greatly appreciated,
