Don;
First of all let me begin with a few simple suggestions, these just might get you further in your search for your surname searches.
1- Always in the subject box put, the who (surname ) in capital letters. The where and when.
As people look through their email, they glance at the subject box to see what is in there. If it does not have a surname or location they are interested in,they delete it.
2- In the message area, you need to give informatin. Not just " I am looking for so and so. I did this at first and got no where. Until a lady on the roots web list told me all that I am telling you and boy! the information started coming in then.
3- Give the full name, ( John Allen DOE ) born 1, January 1890. ( the day gos first, then the month,spelled out in full and then the full year.
4- Always give the location(Belfast, Co.Antrim, Ierland). That way, you have told the list that John is from the city of Belfast, the country of Antrim and the country of Ireland.
5- Give as much information about John as you can, without writing a book. His fathers full name, mothers full name ( her maiden name). Where he was born, married and where he died and is buried at.
Then with all of this VITAL inforation you have given the list, we can determain if w too have this John Allen DOE in our own family search.
I ope I have not insulted you but, have helped you . I wish you all the genealogical luck in finding your ansesteries.
Kind Regards,
Sharon
