Ok, I am going to explain what is going on here, as a little followup to Russ' post. THIS BEECHAM b 1755, was INDIAN. DNA says so. Beecham b 1755 in Rowan, NC, married a Nancy. We are not sure of the last name. Beecham and Nancy's Known kids from Guion miller roll applications are, Jeremiah Helton, who ended up in modern Caldwell NC,Joseph Helton, who went to Ga and then Polk county TN,(modern descandants in SEVIERVILLE TN)and unfortunately, another Beecham Jr, and a Daughter Named Dicie Helton that went to Lumpkin county GA. Yes, Beecham b 1755 father was THOMAS, But, he was an Indian. Thomas Married OLD BEECHAM, B 1705 Daughter Bettie Helton. Thomas Had no last name. He "stole" the Helton name. So you have 2 groups of Heltons in that Area of NC. One Indian and one european that are related by MARRIAGE. this is how it goes, Beecham Helton b 1705 came to NC from Pennsylvania. According to Moravian records, he had a mulatto wife.(Maybe an Indian) Beecham 1705 had 2 children that are Known. Im sure he had more. his children were.. Beecham Helton, Rev war soldier that went to Bedford area of TN. His Daughter, Bettie, Married an Indian Named TOM. Tom had no last name, He took Betties. Tom and Bettie had a Beecham, named after his grandfather. So, The Beecham Helton bunch in Tn, Indiana, Ky, all that area, do have Indians in the family, Just not there. Tom and Bettie's kids that are KNOWN, and DNA tested are Abraham Helton, b abt 1743. Peter Helton b abt 1750 Beecham Helton b 1755 Eliphus, Lifus Helton, b abt 1757. Lucinda Helton, b 1761-She married Long John Mabe Melinda Helton b 176?--She ended up marrying John Smith in Caldwell NC. Jesse Helton b? I'm sure there are a few more. Most of these kids scattered from the Burke area abt 1820-40. They are found in Lumpkin Ga, South East Tn. Some stayed in the Caldwell NC area. You can see the test results here http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cherietree/HeltonFamily/heltondnaprojecthome.htm If you are not sure of WHICH bunch of Heltons you come from, find a male with the Helton last name. There are enough tests now to tell which bunch of Heltons you come from!!! So Yes!! There are truly Indian Heltons, Just not what most would think..it wasn't someones ggg grandmother. It is a MALE Line of Indians, and most likely, Cherokee. And man can they hit a baseball!!!! Notify Administrator about this message?
