I descend from the Western PA Helterbran's.
I have been having a hard time tracking them as well. I have info back to 1833 for my gggf his name was Jacob S. Helterbran Born: 3-26-1833 D: 2-5-1888 married to Martha A. Laneheart on 5-31-1856. From what I could find so far his father may be George Helterbran B: Abt 1811 in PA married to Nancy Shrives. Their Children were:
Daniel Kiefer Helterbran b: 22 NOV 1831 in Westmoreland County, PA
Jacob Helterbran b: BEF. 1834
John F. Helterbran b: 25 APR 1835 in W.Moreland County, PA
Sarah Jane Helterbran b: BEF. 1838 in PA
Henry Helterbran b: BEF. 1842 in PA
Finley Helterbran b: BEF. 1846 in PA
I also have some note written a while ago by one of my relatives talking about a George Helterbran having brothers and sisters as follows:
Sam Helterbran - lived in Fayette City, PA
John Helterbran - lived in Smithton
Dan Helterbran - lived in Jacobs Creek
Jacob Helterbran - lived in Smithton
Cassie - lived in W. Va.
Elisabeth - lived in Nebraska
Maria - no info
