Thanks for your reply. It would appear that there is a mixing of men named Archibald, Arch, Archie, etc. Helms. Archibald Helms and wife Mary Polk definitely had a son named Archibald, he appearing as age 1, 1880 census. However, figuring out what happened to this child remains the problem. You are correct in that the Archibald Polk who d. in 1936 is the son of James Franklin Helms and is not a son of Archibald Helms/Mary Polk. He APPEARS to be the Archibald Helms who m. Flora Pressley. The other Archibald Helms (Joseph Archibald) m. Maggie Gribble. This leaves the son of Archibald Helms/Mary Polk as unconnected and not found (by me) after the 1880 census; I wonder if this child died young. I am familiar with the connection you mentioned of Polks and Helms. I know nothing about the other Helms you mentioned; I have no Helms connections. Bill Polk, Kansas City, MO.
