So here is what I have found out for sure. John Henry Helmadollar was born June 14, 1890. He worked for the Pocahontas Fuel Company in Boissevain Tazewell Virginia prior to 1941. He lived in Boissevain up to his death in 1945. There is a Tazewell obituary Index which lists his obituary as Jan 12, 1945 so he more than likely died a few days before the 12. He registered for the WWII draft (I have a copy of his draft registration). On this registration he lists under "Name of Person who will always know Your Address) first Grace (his wife) but then crossed it out and listed Robert Lee HelmaDollar (This is how wrote the name with the D capitalized) who is also living in Boissevain.
I have not found his parents yet, I am working on getting the obituary. But I can make an educated guess of who his parents are. Mind you this is only a guess. If your husband's father Harmon was named after a family relative it could be the brother of John Henry Helmadollar.
I searched for individuals named Harmon/Harman Helmadollar/Helmandollar. Other than your husband's father there are 2 on record. Both of these men are the same age as John Henry Helmadollar. There is a Harmon Helmandollar who was born in 1892 but is adopted by a family with the last name Crabtree by the year 1900 and then moves to Missouri so I ruled him out as being a brother to John Henry. There is a Harman Helmadollar born Feb 02, 1892 who is from Tazewell. He registered for both world wars and was married by the time of both. What is interesting about this second Harman is his middle name is also Henry which may indicate a close tie to John Henry's family or not. But if they are brothers then John Henry's parents would be Gabriel Helmadollar and Elvira Kidd. Gabriel was the son of Grainger Helmandollar who is the son of William B. Helmandollar. But we won't know till the obituary. I have searched many places and I hope this obituary of 1945 names John Henry's parents.
