Harrison Helm daughter Elizabeth marr. Davis (MO)
I'm trying to research my grandfather's lineage. His name was William David Harrison Davis b. 3/30/1879 in Bernie, Stoddard, MO and d. 2/27/1940 in Siloam Springs, AR. He was orphaned as a child so we don't know if he had any siblings. His father was James Buchanan Davis and his mother was Elizabeth Helm. His maternal grandfather was Harrison Helm d. abt. 1821 Stoddard, MO. I believe Harrison was married to Rhoda(?) and had at least 9 kids, including Elizabeth. His father would have been William Helm mar. Elizabeth Guffy. His father would have been Jacob Helm mar. Tabitha MacDonald. The curious part of their story is that my grandfather was supposed to be at least 1/4 and possibly 1/2 Cherokee. The family ended up in Fayette, IL at the same time the Trail of Tears would have begun in 1838 so I'm thinking this family escaped to IL rather than joining the forced relocation to Oklahoma Territory. The dates I have would mean 3 generations, at least, left TN at the same time, ended up in Fayette, and spread out to MO and IN in the next few years. My family grew up in Oklahoma and I'm extremely familiar with all of the various censuses (rolls) and also the events surrounding the Trail of Tears. I'm very anxious to locate my Indian ancestor in order to have a definite name to search all the lists.Any help would be greatly appreciates.
