Thanks for your information about your family.
My father scrutinised the family tree we have, which as I told you is huge. He was unable to find any of the names with corresponding birth/death dates which you gave, however, we do think that the following is a link to your side of the family and we are sure that we are related through this.
The link seems to be a Charles Hellaby who was born in 1854 and died in 1922. He was one of the seven brothers of Richard and William Hellaby who went to New Zealand and started up the meat industry there. He did not go to New Zealand but to Lancashire and had a hotel in Manchester. He later worked in the mills in Lancashire and had a grocery shop in Nottingham at some stage. He married twice, once to Alice Atkinson and also to Elizabeth Class/Cass(?. The two marriages produced twenty children, born between 1883 and 1903 in Bolton and Salford. One of Charles's sons, Richard, founded Rutland Mills in Bolton.
Some of this information is recorded on our family tree. My father recently obtained from America a book called 'Stock in Trade' about Richard and William and some of the above facts were found in this book.
As mentioned, the link appears to be a geographical one but one that cannot be ignored as we are sure that if you were able to delve deeper into your side of the Hellaby family, we should be able to find more links. The lady who researched this family tree occasionally made errors and omissions (understandable really when so much work was done and possible unreliable documents obtained and referred to)so it is almost certain that there is information out there which we do not have.
If you can provide us with any more information then we should be only too happy to help if we can. Our surname is unusual so that increases the chances of our being related. It is a remarkable coincidence that you live in Leeds. I live in South Leeds, in Birstall!
Let me know if you are able to find anything else out about your family.
