We share the same ancestor, David Helbling, born 1716( in Walperswil, Kanton Bern, Switzeland ? ) who died in Schoenau. When ?
I only know 2 sons:
1. Johannes Baptist born 1756 ( in Wingen?, Alsace, a small village ca 10 miles away from Schoenau ), who emigrated to Russia with his family. In 1992 I visited Saratov in the former German Wolga republic of the Soviet Union and had the pleasure to find their names in a record of immigration. I guess they emigrated with many other families of the area , especially from Neeviller close to Wissembourg, Wingen and Schoenau but nowadays on the french side of the frontier.
2. David jr born abt 1760 in ?, married Magdalena Schweickhard( o1760 i Climbach+1806 i Schoenau), who is the ancestor of the gemano-french line and my GGGgrandfather. His is mentionned as baker and inn keeper.
David senior bought 1754 in Schoenau the arms factory and is mentionned as the "Waffenschmied" ie the Weaponsmith.
1765 he must sell it to the iron works for 2156 gulden.
There is josef Anton helbling also mentionned in the records of 1722. Was he a brother of David? Did they come from Walperswil with their parents?
How many childrenDavid H. had ?
A good part of the Schoenau Church records are missing between 1760 and 1798. A part of them could be in the parishes of Lembach(for the Protestants) or Obersteinbach(for the catholics).
Many descendants of David jr emigrated to the States (ohio and indiana) between 1850 and 1900. Did the Beresan line emigrate after 1872 as it got common among the russian german community? Interesting to notice how these cousins joined in the Usa.
