Hi Drew
My gg grandmother was a Heggie (I think it was Isabella) but she would have been born about the 1840's as her daughter in law was born in 1870.
Miss Heggie married my gg grandfather, a Herd but because he was a carpenter and she a middle class lady, they changed the name to Heard and moved to South Australia. One of their children was Thomas Heggie Heard (my g grandfather). I think maybe this Heggie married a ?David Herd. Look forward to hearing from you - and your site is great, very informative, I will be visiting it again!!
