My Grandmother's Grandpa (by the name of William Heggie) was a cabinet-maker in Scotland (near Edinburg). He found a New Zealand stamp while walking in the streets of Edinburgh and decided to go to New Zealand (rather than Canada-his other choice!)
He eventually settled down on the East Coast in the North Island where he worked on a farm and had his "own horse and 2 dogs and much meat - it was paradise".
