OH Gail,Am I glad to hear from you!We are indeed related!!My Grandfather was Rev Richard Hegarty,Joseph's brother. This is the first positive reply I have gotten in this country.Believe it or not I,ve had more success finding relations in Ireland. This year in Feb. my husband and I met with several "cousins" in West Cork. They are living just about were they did before William Allen and Mary Ann came to this country.Just a week before the WTC attack we went to Brooklyn superior court to get a copy of the naturalization papers for William Allen Hegarty.Little by little I have been collecting data, the only information I had was my grandfather's name and the fact that he was a Methodist minister. With each new bit of info I have been able to compile quit a lot of information which I would be glad to share with you if you like.My father's sister lives in Garden City,Long Island, she gave me some information but much of it was of the family story type and has proved to not be factual. There is an Allen Hegarty in Florida, who I belive is the son of or grandson of William Hegarty another brother, but there is no overwhelming interest in the family tree there.
I live in Canton,CT,if you wish to email me privatly my email is email@example.com.If you send me your email I will send you an invatition to view my page at My family.com where you can see some pictures of the area of west Cork the family came from.We are planning another trip next October,I can't wait to get back! We have fallen in love with the area of Ireland near Goleen,on the "Mizen"the family lived in a townland named Ballyrisode. The grandfather of your Joseph was William, and one of the cousines showed me the grave of William Hegarty and Frances Allen last trip,it is in Schull near the harbor and there is a picture on the webpage.Mary Ann's parents are buried at the "Alter"a church of Ireland church graveyard where I attended Easter services the year before with my granddaughter, but it was before I knew where Richard Daly and Catherine Roycroft(Mary Ann's parents)were buried.Needless to say I could go on for a long time like this,I'm excited to hear from you!I will be anxiously awaiting your reply.
