While taking a DNA sample for the FamilyTreeDNA project from a Hefner cousin last wednesday, he told me something about the Hefner family that I want to try to check out.
He said that while at the National Archives in Washington several years ago, an archive assistant and him found a reference from the French and Indian War that 4 Hefner brothers were mercenaries fighting for the French. They were captured and forced to help in the construction of the University of Virginia. One day, their guard wondered off, so the 4 brother just left and went on their way.
Have you ever hear anything about this ?? I do not know if this story has any fact to it or not, but I would like to find out who the 4 brother are if the story is true. This cousin has always been right on with his genealogy facts and stories, so I want to try to find out any furthur information if I can. Thanks for any assistance.
