I have been stuck on my Hefner, Heffner, Heftner family for about 20 years. They were in Yell County. I know they came from Georgia just after 1870; however, I have been unable to pinpoint the county in Georgia.
Several of this family are buried in the Russellville, Arkansas cemetery in Yell County.
They inter-married and are related to the Terry and Bottoms family in Yell County. My grandfather Frank Terry was raised by his grandparents after his mother Francis E. Hefner died in 1895 in Yell County. The family who raised Frank Terry were named George Fletcher.
Other Hefner siblings of Francis E Hefner all spelled the surname differently.
George W., William were her brothers or Uncles. I think I found them in White County Arkansas in the census about 1900.
There was a cousin names James Hefner who my father Glen Terry visited in Russellville. I think he had a sister referred to as Epsy Woodard Heftner.
I need to pull my old letters out and check this to be sure.
