There is a reprint of an feature article on John Heffner that appeared in the neswpaper "Reading Eagle" in the Raleigh News and Observer, Raleigh, NC, Dec. 6, 1880.
Says he was born in Germany 1815; md first in 1840, by her had 17 children, made of twins and triplets and the last child, a single birth. She died Feb. 1848. He md. second to his childrens nanny. She had her first child, a boy, in Feb. 1849. The second child was born on Christmas Day, 1849. She then had twins for the next 5 years. They had one more child before he came to America in 1854. The last three children born in America. His second wife died in 1857. He was now the father of 32 children, 12 of whom had died, leaving 20 to be taken in charge by a widow he married in 1858. She had one child from a previous marriage. She became the mother of 9 more children in 10 years. He has since forgotten the names of his numerous progeny, and only can recall those born in later years.
I am not related to this family and only post this as a resource.
