David - Good luck in finding the Hefferon's coat-of-arms. My maternal great-grandparents were Hefferons who came to NYC from Belfast.
My ancestor, Thomas Hefferon, was a stone mason who helped build the Brooklyn Bridge.
These Hefferons were Catholic - I suspect being Irish and Catholic in the north of Ireland, he was lucky to have had a good trade -never mind a Coat of Arms. I suspect the Protestant Ascendency would more likely
have proper coats-of-arms. I could be wrong.

My Hefferons are also related to the McNiffs -- also from Belfast. My father's family comes from Donegal.

Since coming to America, the family has become interwoven into the fabric of American
history and culture. I was born in Texas. My son Sean was born in Washington State, his brother, Liam was born in Arizona. We live now in Ohio. We Irish do get around.

My brother Dan and I were in Belfast in '96.
We found some Hefferons in the phone book but decided against ringing someone up out of the blue - our tangible connections with
the family in Belfast dried up a couple of generations ago.

Good luck with your search - and let me know what you find out. Hey, we could be cousins.
