Johann Heermann Philadelphia 1830-1865
Looking for information on Johann Heermann
John Herman was born in Germany as "Johann Heermann", around 1829/30He most likely came to Philadelphia in the late 1840's. I think it is more likely that he came around 1847. One family member has stated that John was one of eleven children and that some may have come to New York instead of Philadelphia.
The only description of John was that he was 5' 4" tall with light hair and hazel eyes.John married Mary Jane Dean in Philadelphia on December 28, 1848, at the same time shortening his name from "Johann Heermann" to "John Herman".(Other Variations of the name are:Herrmann, Hermann, Heerman, Hermans,) John and Mary Jane had four children; Sarah born around 1849/50, Ellenora, born around 1851/52, William Henry, born December 13, 1853,
John enlisted and mustered into the 72nd Pa Vol. Infantry (The Fire Zouaves) on April 12, 1864 at the rank of Private. John died on Jan 16, 1865 as a prisoner of war at Salisbury, NC.
