Your distant relative David Heenan of Barbican Farm, Newcastle, County Down, Northern Ireland, has just died. Here is a link to an internet obit.

My mother's side are heenans. The family I know of is quite large in Canada, from Ontario to the prairies to BC.

David Heenan was in his late sixties. My mother is in her 80's. Anything to do with the Heenans and The Barbican is related to you. The Barbican is the old family homestead in Northern Ireland. the family over there is really big. My mom keeps track but I can't remember everyone. David was the oldest and head of the families.

Another relative you can find something about easily on the internet is Bobby "the Brain" Heenan, a professional wrestler and author.

What I know of our part of the family is that my mother's father and his two brothers (so that would be David's parents brothers) left Ireland and got land in the Canadian prairies. Tim (Thompson), my grandfather, was married to 'Minny' Florence (nee Richardson) and she could not take the climate or hard work, so he gave his land to his brother and moved back to Ontario. The other brother, whose name I cannot recall, didn't like farming, and moved west to BC. Bill remained and the Heenan farm still prospers in Grand Coolie, west of Regina, owned by cousin Billy Heenan and Dale (his son) Heenan.

Bill or Billy Heenan of Saskatchewan or Regina might get some internet hits.

If you want to know more, I can get details from my mother.

It is only by pulling as many threads together as you can that will connect yourself to your father and the Heenan family he came from.

At least you have a great advantage. Not only in the internet, but in that Heenan is not a name many will adopt who aren't Heenan by blood.

My last name is Arthur. We trace our family on my fathers side to Scotland, and are not part of the enormous McArthur clan, as many presume. Our ancestry traces back, if you can believe it, all the way to a little known ancient Russian warlord, who ended up 'retiring' in the British Isles / Scotland. The difficulty with tracing my family branches is that Arthur is a popular name for many people to adopt. I have met several dark skinned people who have been Arthurs for only two generations. Our family, like the Heenans, predates written records in the British Isles.

Good luck and get in touch if you need.
