Dr. Samuel HEDGEPATH, Santa Cruz, CA
When my grandmother was a girl, ca. 1905-1915, she used to visit her "Aunt Julia" (actually her grandaunt) in Santa Cruz, California.Aunt Julia (nee GIBSON) was the wife of Dr. Samuel HEDGPETH (pronounced Hedge-Path by the family) who had some kind of clinic or nursing home (a TB sanitorium?) in Santa Cruz.My grandmother's "Aunt Emma,"Mary Emaline (ROSE) RADY, was a nurse and worked at the clinic.
The GIBSONs were from Madison Co., AR, and came to Monterey Co., CA, in several "batches," the first being Julia's sister, Margaret Elizabeth (GIBSON) ROSE, who came by wagon train in 1856.We're not sure exactly when Julia came, but her father and the rest of the family came by 1884.Various members of the family gradually moved north from Montery Co. into Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and Alameda Cos.
