Do any of you know about any Indian ancestry in your Heaton families?
My gr-gr-grandmother was Elizabeth Heaton O'Shields who is rumored to be full blooded Cherokee.
I realize that the Heatons came from England, making it doubtful that any Indian ancestry came from this line.
I did manage to find a Heaton family on the final Dawes register. They are of Cherokee blood. The most that any of them had was 1/8 blood. They are also listed IW, meaning that they come from Indian married to White.
The names on this list are as follows:

Calvin Heaton
David Heaton
Charles Heaton
Esther Heaton
Thomas Heaton
