Hi Rosemary: Thank you for the info. At this time, I don't think that my Elizabeth is the daughter of Joseph Heaton. I was thinking that she could be the daughter of his son William. However, I found William's daughter Elizabeth L. Heaton (Birchfield) living in Alabama the same year as I found my Elizabeth in S.C. My Elizabeth was listed in 1860 Southern Division of Spartanburg County with my gr-gr-grandfather William O'Shields. Elizabeth was 35 years old. Next, she was listed in Pickens County S.C. in 1880, widowed, 55 years old. Both census reports suggests that she was born in 1825. All death certificates, except for one, of my Elizabeth's children, states that she was born in N.C. She is said to be full blooded Cherokee. In a photo that I have of her, she certainly looks it. I read that Joseph's father, William Heaton, was born in N.C. My question: Do you know of Indian Heritage in your line of the Heatons and do you know if Joseph's father came from N.C.? I've been searching for a long time for Elizabeth's family with absolutely no success. I don't know when she died or where she is buried. The only official documentation that I can find on her is the 1860 and 1880 census. I have the death certificates of all of her children. Other than that, everything is hearsay. According to a couple of the death certificates, she was called "Betsy". I know that your are tired of reading by now, but I would love hear from you further. I hope to find a connection in this family, some where. Thank you for replying to my posting. You can reach me at weyerman@ubtanet.com. Sincerely, Pam Notify Administrator about this message?
