Hello Jenny,
This may be of interest. My great- great grandmother in Australia was "Granny Tuckey." Her Christian name was Catherine while her second husband was George Tuckey. Catherine's daughter Jane, married Thomas "Eather"...which correctly speaking should have been spelt "Heather."
Catherine's second husband George, was the son of John Tuckey- who in 1817 broke into a barn in Headley, Hampshire and stole six and a half bushels of pease the property of Charles Lee. At the time he was in the company of a William Heather aged 28 years. (So that Willliam was born around 1789). It appears John and William got three months in gaol for their trouble.
Although I have checked at the archives etc. for all people with the surname of "Heather" who arrived in Australia bonded I have not found your William. Would you know in what year he was transported and what ship? I would also be interested in the parentage of Maria Tuckey.
(John Tuckey arrived in Australia as a convict on the "Ocean" in the early 1823 after being found guilty on another charge in 1822.)
Hope to hear from you,
