HEATHCOTE (derivatives HEATHCOAT, HEATHCOTT) is a locational surname from
the Old English "cottage on the heath". Places of that name occuring
Debyshire (the chief source of the surname) and Warwickshire.

P.H Reaney cites as early examples Godfrey de HETCOTA 1166 (Pipe Rolls -
Derbyshire) and Ralph de HETHCOTE 1227 (Assize Rolls Staffordshire).
