Thanks Douglas, as there is minimal info' going way back, a lot of possibilities have to be considered on few facts. My details on Hulton abbey come from a published book by William Klemperer, English Heritage Inspector, covering major archaeological digs on the site in 1990's. It figures in due to being founded by Lord Audley, connected to the Yardleys, and Audley family overlordship of many areas cropping up in my Yardley/Heath research. The Hulton Abbey area was the most densely populated in the region in 16th century - includes the village of Milton. Coincidentally Benjamin Yardley was to acquire the two mills and house there in mid 1700's - grandson of William Yardley's brother. I mention the other villages partly because they all run back along a valley to Leek town. The first relevant person seems to be Henry del Heth of greater Leek parish in 1327, when surnames were given for tax reasons to most This is probably the ENDON or Horton areas, as Heaths don't appear in Leek town proper. I think they spread west, though this basic surname crops up everywhere within a dozen miles. The published Burslem records show the Roger BMD I mention and they are also on the IGI. Have to access copies in local archives. Further, the 1681/2 Burslem parish entry in Latin refers to burial of an illegitimate daughter of Roger, not his burial. Burslem village expanded from 47 households in 1676 to many thousands in early 1800's. I sent a copy of the named Household heads of 1674 to Nancy some time back - this was published in a Wedgewood family book, using a list from old Tunstall manor records. I was surprised no Heaths were on it, nor on the 1666 tax lists for the parish - c. 80 people only for Burslem parish. As to Richard Heath of Kingsley I should have said his sons were John and Robert, the latter married Susanna Wolrich early 1682. Less well known is that Susanna's brother Thomas was a merchant and four times mayor of Congleton, Cheshire, c.1715, some 6 miles from HORTON. He sold his father's land to Robert in Bucks county that was next to William Yardley's. ps. the nearest airport is Manchester, 50 miles north. bye pete Notify Administrator about this message?
