Father and Daughter Meet after 40 Years
Temple, Texas, Sept. 28: After a separation of forty years, a father and daughter, THOMAS HURD of Georgia and Mrs. D. G BRYANT of Stephens County, were brought together as the result of a newspaper item.

The father left his Georgia home to go to the Civil War, the daughter being only a little girl in short dresses when he saw her last. He did not return and was mourned as dead, and the wife came to Texas with her little girl. The girl married and the mother died some years ago.

Back in Georgia, the father was each day scanning the newspapers in the home that he would find his lost wife and daughter. This practice he had continued since his return from the war. One day he ran across an item showing that the maiden name of Mrs. D. G. BRYANT of Stephens County was HURD. He wrote to her and proofs were exchanged, which made their relationship certain. He immediately came to this county to visit his daughter.

Note: some information in the article is likely incorrect. Another version: this was Bailey Heard from Georgia who came to meet his daughter, Wilson Irene Heard Bryant who was married to John William Bryant.
